powerful antidotes

In this month’s musing I share a few quotes that have inspired me recently. I hope that you find some of them useful to you too.

June’s long daylight hours and whirlwind of activity that everyone was swept up in felt chaotic and unsettled. There seemed to be a plethora of plans buzzing around, each vying for attention in the limited time available, an abundance of commitments pulling in different directions, all clamoring for priority in the bustling schedule. June felt draining.

But June taught me that sometimes you need to accept that you can’t do it all. Even though I have all my to-do-lists and I structure my day as best I can. I found myself struggling under the weight of my own expectations. I wasn’t achieving what I have set out for myself and felt like I was falling behind. Then after chatting with my mum (of course!), she told me that I just needed to accept that somethings needed to slip. I realised that it was only my expectations that I was falling short on; I had created my own disappointment by holding tight to my unreasonable expectations. But to change your mindset and loosening that grip is such a hard thing to do, definitely something that I am working on:

“You can only lose what you cling to”

As someone who is a self-confessed perfectionist and likes to be in control, I have encountered some situations recently that have really tested me. A current project has left me feeling desperate for an end state that is ‘right’ and appears soon, at the same time I’ve had to manage some strained relationships. The emotions that have accompanied this project have been unpleasant at best, feeling totally helpless and out of control. They have definitely been some of the lowest I have felt in the last few years. Then I read this quotation from Joseph Awuah-Darko:

“And then I realised: I have no intention of going through life without letting life go through me. To feel is a privilege. Not a burden.”

To feel the whole spectrum of human emotions IS a privilege. The more deeply you feel pain, the more deeply you will experience joy. The human experience is a beautiful tapestry of emotions, memories, and connections. I realised that I needed to enjoy the process, not be desperate for an end-state that may never come. That I need to feel where I’m going, not just where I want to be. After this revelation I pulled a tarot card which got me good this month; a Ten of Wands and the affirmation that accompanied it was:

“As I move on, so I let go”

This period ended sweetly with an impromptu lunch in a field with some dear friends. Making time for connection, being outside, sharing food and stories is such a powerful antidote for any heaviness. I reminder that whatever I am feeling now just passing through and that I don’t have to experience any of it alone.

Where food is shared, happiness is doubled.

This is exactly why I created wyld clwb: to connect, to share and to feel joy. I hope that if you are ever in need of connection you could reach out, whether it’s at an event or in an email. I am here. We are here.
